TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunctions can often cause headaches and migraines. Dr. Jeffrey H. Lowe and our associates can relieve your pain using the TruDenta® system to treat the root cause of your discomfort. We welcome you to call Lifetime Dental Care at 785-625-7969 for more information on TruDenta headache and migraine relief in Hays, Kansas, and to schedule your consultation with our experienced dentists.

The TruDenta® system is a treatment method for addressing chronic headaches and migraines. It focuses on treating the cause of the pain, rather than only the pain itself, and does not utilize any needs or drugs.

Research indicates that the cause for headaches, migraines, vertigo, TMJ disorders and face, jaw and neck aches are related. When there are unequal forces in your mouth influencing different areas of your head, it can prompt nerve responses that result in pain. Trauma, poor posture or other medical conditions may also be a cause for your pain.

Our dentists will begin your treatment by performing an assessment. We will examine your health history and determine if your headaches or migraines are caused by a TMJ disorder or by another factor. This assessment will include a bite force analysis, a range of motion analysis, a muscle exam and a discussion of your headache and health history. We will then create a customized treatment plan to help alleviate your headaches and migraines.

The TruDenta treatment will re-prepare the muscles and nerves in your head and neck to function properly. We may use one or more of the following procedures as part of your treatment:

  • Ultrasound – This treatment helps to return circulation to chronically sore and strained muscles through gentle head and increasing blood flow. The sounds waves of the ultrasound also act to break up scar tissue in your muscles.
  • Trigger Point Therapy – There are trigger points, or hyperirritable sports in the areas surrounding skeletal muscle. Our dentists may use manual trigger point therapy (similar to massage therapy) to decrease and eliminate pain and tension in these trigger points, breaking up muscle knots and increasing blood flow to the inflamed areas.
  • Electrocurrent – We may use microcurrent stimulation to reduce muscle spasms and the accompanying pain. This also decreases the build-up of lactic acid and stimulates your nerves.
  • Low-Level Laser – We can use a cold laser therapy treatment to decrease pain and inflammation, accelerate the healing of muscle and joint tissue, and rebuild natural nerve function.

TruDenta treatments generally last about 50 minutes.
